Simple explanation of how a photovoltaic solar panel or plate works?

Maybe you’ve ever seen solar panels installed on rooftops, but you know how a photovoltaic solar panel or panel works?

Introduction to the article:  In this article it is exposed in a simple way, so that it can also be used for people who do not have very broad technical knowledge, the operation of a photovoltaic solar panel, that is, an explanation of how electricity is produced in a photovoltaic solar panel.

Simple explanation of how a photovoltaic solar panel or panel works?

Entire Article:

Photovoltaic solar panels work because of the effect that sunlight has on them. This effect is called the photoelectric effect, a name that arises from the fact that by means of photons that contain sunlight, electricity is generated.

As I suppose most of you will know, although it is worth commenting because there is always someone who may not know it, the atoms of any matter are formed of electrons, protons and neutrons. Electrons by their nature have a negative electrical energy charge associated with them, protons have a positive electric energy charge associated with them, and neutrons have no associated electric charge. Knowing this, we will also comment that electrons are the parts of the atoms that are most outside of them, and are the ones that form the electric current.

That is to say, that an electric current is formed by electrons in motion that jump from one atom to another of the conductive material through which they travel, and that move from the negative pole to the positive pole, since having the electrons negative charge they see attracted by the positive pole.

Returning to the photovoltaic panels, these are formed by several photovoltaic cells, and each of them is composed of at least two thin sheets of silicon, separated between them by a layer of a semiconductor element.

One of these sheets is formed with elements with a lower electron charge than silicon, that is, with a lower negative charge, and therefore this sheet is the positive one (P), and another one formed with elements with a higher electron charge than silicon, that is to say with a higher negative charge, and therefore this sheet is the negative one (N).

We have to take into account that the current generated in a solar panel is the same type as the one we can get by means of batteries or batteries, and that the vast majority of normal appliances need alternating current to operate. To get from direct current to alternating current, electrical devices called current inverters are used.
